As one of Raya Magazine team members confronted herself with endometriosis in the past, here’s a permanent column with endometriosis tips and tricks. These endometriosis tips and tricks are going to be based on studies, her experience, both and will also include personal additions.
We mention these do not replace medical advice. Every endometriosis patient should see a doctor specialized in this disease. Additionally, she could look into the things she can do for herself in terms of a healthy lifestyle.
Endometriosis Tips and Tricks #1: Citrus are Among the Best Fruit
A review published in 2018, done by the American specialists tried to see how important is fruits and vegetables intake for endometriosis risk.
Doctors gather information from 70.835 women of reproductive age. They collected the data between 1991 and 2013 and they used questionnaires with info regarding the diet. Then, the specialists only kept the laparoscopy endometriosis confirmed cases.

The high intake of fruit and vegetables is associated with a lower risk of endometriosis
The first conclusion: it was an inverse association between the high intake of fruit and endometriosis risk (confirmed through a laparoscopy).
Citrus fruit had the most beneficial effects in this low risk of endometriosis. So, women who consumed at least a serving of citrus fruit a day had a 22% lower risk of endometriosis, comparing to those who had only 1 serving of citrus fruit a week.
Although doctors also investigated a potential correlation between vegetables and endometriosis, the available information could not lead to any conclusion.

My experience with citrus fruit
Citrus is indeed a category of fruit endometriosis patients should include in their diet. Yet, from my experience, citrus might also irritate the bowel especially if you have endometriosis lesions on that area.
For example, citrus gave me pelvic pain if I ate it the week prior to my period. Besides that time, it was all good.
Therefore, if you know you have such pains or such lesions, pay attention when consuming citrus fruit.
If not, all the better.
Another things I would want you to pay attention to is the quality of the citrus fruit, their provenience and not to eat the peel as it might contain harmful substances.
Besides these aspects I would say citrus fruit are great for endometriosis patients. Especially studies have demonstrated their beneficial effects, we should include citrus food in our daily diet.
